WHAT DID JESUS TELL US TO DO?
In 1937 Charles M. Sheldon wrote his classic In His Steps and challenged us to lives our lives asking "What Would Jesus Do?" In this study we will read the NIV Gospels in order to determine what JESUS TOLD US TO DO. Hopefully that will help answer the question. Our scope will not include what He told the Disciples or individuals to do. We will be followers on the Hillside, listening to his messages to US...I have no qualifications to lead this study and invite comment as the Spirit moves you.

I'M TIRED
Captain's Log, Stardate 4456.3: Patrick is here with me curled up on his afghan. Junior is out somewhere. The Border is in Room #4, with two cats. Went caching in the Warsaw Metropolitan area yesterday--found 17? planted 5? Am posting some more waterfall pics as requested. gogators 0h!! ESPN is broadcasting the Gators' Orange and Blue game today!!! So no eagle watching!!

"Blessed are the Meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Our Lord tells us not to be proud, but to be humble, and gentle. We should not be easily provoked or irritated, and be forebearing under injury or annoyance.

3. JESUS TELLS US: BE SYMPATHETIC
Matt. 5:4
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
In the second Beatitude, Our Lord is telling us that the Right Path will lead to contentment for those who truly believe; that we must be compassionate and empathetic towards others; that we should accept our own personal sorrows and learn and grow and gain strength from them, and not to dispair.

2. JESUS TELLS US: "REALIZE YOUR NEED FOR GOD".
Matt. 5:3
"Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."
Our Lord has gone up on the Hillside. He is seated above us and we are standing, listening to the Sermon on the Mount. He has given us the first Beatitude.
What is he telling us to do? It's hard. He is telling us that we need to realize that we need to learn as much as we can about God and his commandments. He is telling us that we don't know it all, that we must not be self-righteous and proud in our spirituality. He is telling us not to be self-sufficient in our path. He is telling us this one of the prerequisites for leading the kind of life that will ultimately allow us to enter Heaven's gates.

1. JESUS TELLS US: "REPENT"
Matt. 4:17
From that time on, Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near."
We are in Galilee and Our Lord has begun his ministry.
Repentance is contrition, that is, sorrow for sin: and confession to God and man. The Kingdom of Heaven is Christianity. So Jesus is telling us here that in order to follow him, we must be truely sorry for our sins and Confess them to God, and ask forgiveness from men we have sinned against.
The final element of repentance is to alter our live: Sin no more.

MATTHEW -THE FIRST GOSPEL
Matthew (Levi) was a tax collector who left his work to become a Disciple. His Gospel was written in Greek, c. 50 A.D. It was written for a Jewish audience, and the main theme of the Book is that Jesus is the Messiah.
